Liverpool are said to be weighing up an ambitious triple raid for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, Man City midfielder James Milner and PSV Eindhoven forward Memphis Depay this summer should Raheem Sterling leave the club and leave them with a £50m transfer war chest, according to the Daily Mirror.

Manchester City are said to be targeting a move for England international Sterling after being buoyed by learning that he is refusing to sit down and engage in talks over a new deal, and they will test Liverpool’s resolve with a £50 million bid.
Should the deal go ahead, manager Brendan Rodgers would be given funds to make a move for Villa hit man Christian Benteke, whom Tim Sherwood insisted would cost around £30 million to prize away the striker from Villa Park.
Rodgers also hopes to be able to convince James Milner to the club on a free transfer, but fears missing out on the England man as they look likely to miss out on a European place next term.
And the Reds will also go up against Manchester United for the signature of PSV starlet Memphis Depay. Their chances of landing the Dutchman were given a boost this week when the Eredivisie giants gave Rodgers permission to open talks.
Rodgers is hoping to keep Sterling at Anfield, but is aware that he may be powerless to stop him, and could fund further purchases by allowing up to ten players to leave in a drastic squad shake up.
