Reds keen on midfield maestro.
Liverpool are lining-up a move to re-sign Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.
The Spanish playmaker is yet to sign a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu and his current contract is set to expire in 2014.
According to Spanish daily AS, Real are keen to tie the Spain international down until 2016 but Alonso is reportedly keen to evaluate his future at the end of the season, with current boss Jose Mourinho expected to leave the club in the summer.
Alonso left Anfield in 2009 after five years at Liverpool, in which he won the Champions League and made over 200 appearances for the club.
The World Cup winner remains fond of Liverpool and, according to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, has his heart set on a return to the Premier League, with finances a secondary concern.
Defensive midfielder Alonso has been an integral part of Spain and Real’s success in recent seasons.
The former Real Sociedad player has made twenty appearances for Los Blancos in La Liga this season but is yet to score.
