Merseysiders may swoop for Ivorian at the end of this season.
Premier League giants Liverpool have been put on alert by the news that in-form Vitesse Arnhem front man Wilfried Bony’s proposed move to Russia has fallen through, according to reports on talkSPORT.co.uk.
It had been expected that the in-demand Ivorian would complete a transfer to the Russian Premier League this week, with the transfer window in Russia remaining open until Tuesday.
However, with the player being unable to agree any such move, despite telling his employers that he wanted to leave the club, Liverpool may now be able to take advantage of the situation.
Bony, who has been in eye-catching form in front of goal for the Eredivisie outfit this season, has so far refused to sign an extension to his current contract with Vitesse, and with the likes of West Ham United also said to be interested in the striker, there could be a summer auction for the player.
However, clubs in Ukraine, whose transfer window is still open, could steal a march on the Premier League duo by signing Bony this week.
“No club in Russia came to us with an offer, so Wilfried will finish the season at Vitesse,” Vitesse interim director Erwin Kasakowski told Dutch newspaper AD.
