Liverpool travel to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this afternoon, with Brendan Rodgers’ side looking to bounce back from the disappointment of defeat to Manchester City on Monday night against a Spurs side hoping to maintain their 100% start to the season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
All eyes are likely to be on the attack, where Rodgers could hand a debut to new striker Mario Balotelli, who didn’t sign in time to be involved against City – although there are injury concerns over defenders Glen Johnson, Alberto Moreno and Martin Skrtel.
Tottenham, meanwhile, have kicked off their campaign with wins against West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers and, with a Europa League victory over AEL Limassol also under their belts, Pochettino’s men are likely to be brimming with confidence.
This is the Liverpool team we expect to line up at White Hart Lane:
Goalkeeper and Defence
GK) Simon Mignolet – The Belgian now has little competition as Liverpool’s first choice following the sale of Pepe Reina to Bayern Munich.
RB) Javier Manquillo – Young Spanish right back Javier Manquillo could return to the team for this one, with England international Glen Johnson expected to miss out through injury after limping off at Eastlands.
CB) Martin Skrtel – Powerful Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel should shake off a knock to take his place at the heart of defence at White Hart Lane.
CB) Dejan Lovren – Signed for £20m from Southampton, Dejan Lovren is yet to show his worth as a Liverpool player and will need to stand up to a strong Tottenham front line.
LB) Alberto Moreno – Had a tough Premier League debut against Manchester City, when he was at fault for Stevan Jovetic’s opening goal, but should shake off a fitness doubt to start.
