Central Midfield
DMC) Steven Gerrard – Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is still just about the first name on the team sheet for Brendan Rodgers in his holding midfield role.
CM) Jordan Henderson – Industrious central midfielder Jordan Henderson hasn’t quite found the form of last season so far this time around, but should still start.
CM) Philippe Coutinho – Brazilian scheme Philippe Coutinho just gets the nod from us – but Brendan Rodgers could go with the more defensively minded Joe Allen or Lucas, whilst Adam Lallana is also available for a possible debut.
Attack
ACM) Raheem Sterling – Tricky wonderkid Raheem Sterling was at his devastating best operating behind the strikers last season and a return to the 4-4-2 diamond would allow him to revert to that role.
SC) Mario Balotelli – The £16m man and general enigma that is Mario Balotelli could be given his Liverpool debut in attack after training with the club this week.
SC) Daniel Sturridge – Operating with a diamond system will allow Rodgers to play Daniel Sturridge upfront with Balotelli rather than having to shift him out wide.
