The Reds will go top of the table if they win against Cardiff Saturday lunchtime…
GK) Simon Mignolet
Barring a last minute injury, the Belgian stopper will definitely start between the sticks for the Reds. Mignolet has conceded 18 goals in 16 Premier League matches so far this season, but is widely regarded as Brendan Rodgers’ most successful summer signing.
DR) Glen Johnson
First choice right-back Johnson will continue at right-back, as he has done when fit all season. Martin Kelly is actually fit now, but hasn’t been given much of a chance by Rodgers to stake a claim for a defensive start.
DC) Mamadou Sakho
The towering French centre-back is getting better and better every week, and should continue to partner Martin Skrtel at the expense of club vice-captain Daniel Agger. Sakho’s positioning and distribution was excellent against Tottenham, and Rodgers will expect more of the same.
DC) Martin Skrtel
Skrtel’s been Liverpool’s best defender this season, despite the fact he was almost forced out of the club during the summer. The Slovakian should partner Sakho, creating a powerful aerial duo at the back.
DL) Jon Flanagan
Flanagan scored his first professional goal against Tottenham at the weekend, and kept flying winger Aaron Lennon quiet all afternoon. As a result, the 20-year-old should continue to keep loanee French fullback Aly Cissokho out of the side.
