Liverpool are reportedly readying a second bid for Southampton full-back Nathaniel Clyne as they aim to pip Manchester United to the England international.
Clyne only has 12 months left on his Saints contract and, despite them offering him a new deal in a desperate attempt to keep him, is expected to follow in the footsteps of five of his former teammates by leaving for one of the Premier League’s elite.
Three of those – Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren – went to Anfield last summer and now Brendan Rodgers wants to lure Clyne from St Mary’s Stadium as a replacement for Glen Johnson.

The Reds apparently opened the bidding for the 24-year-old last month when they had a £10m offer rejected, but The Mirror understands that they will return with an improved sum.
United are also monitoring Clyne as Louis van Gaal looks to strengthen at right-back, but the Old Trafford club have also been heavily linked with Paris Saint Germain defender Gregory van der Weil.
Clyne was surprisingly left on the bench for England’s Euro 2016 qualifying victory over Slovenia on Sunday, with United’s Phil Jones preferred at right-back and then Jordan Henderson shifted there when Jones was substituted at half time.
