Rodgers is interested in Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan.
Liverpool may have already splashed out over £80 million on new signings this summer, but that is not holding back their boss Brendan Rodgers from going in for a £40 million rated attacking midfielder in Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan, reports the Daily Mirror.
French station RMC is reporting that the Merseysiders are ready to battle Spanish champions Atletico Madrid for the 26-year old, who is ready to be sold by Benfica.
The Argentine international was previous linked with a switch to Liverpool’s arch rivals Manchester United, but it is the Reds who are set to make the first concrete move.
Gaitan too is ready for a change in scenery this summer as he was ready to move to French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, but Benfica and the Principality have failed to agree a fee yet.
Gaitan is believed to be having a release clause worth a whopping 45 million euros, but reports claim that Rodgers is willing to negotiate a fee and splash the cash if necessary.
