Liverpool have reignited their interest in Ajax defender Tony Alderweireld, according to Belgian journalist Sven Claes.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the versatile 24-year-old for most of the summer, while Tottenham have also been credited with an interest.
But with Spurs closing in on a deal to sign Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches from Steau Bucharest, Liverpool now appear clear favourites for Alderweireld.
The centre-half, who can also cover both full-back spots, is valued at around £6m by Ajax and rejected a move to Norwich City earlier in the summer. He is believed to be holding out for a bigger club.
Claes, who works for Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws says no formal approach has been made by the Anfield club so far.
Alderweireld has spent his entire career with Ajax and has 24 caps for the Belgium.
