Liverpool are looking to step up their interest in Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin as they seek to add another centre back to their squad.
Manager Kenny Dalglish has cast his eye over a number of options including Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross, Bolton’s Gary Cahill and Birmingham City’s Scott Dann but is not presently confident of landing any of the trio. Arsenal have their eyes on both Dann and Cahill while the Potters are desperate to hang on their player maning that Liverpool will have to pay well above market value to land any of them.
Godin is a more realistic target and has been the subject of Reds’ interest for a while. Enquiries about his availability were made at the start of the summer and were politely rejected but they will return to see if there is a possibility of bringing the Uruguayan to Anfield.
With the player recently acquiring dual Spanish citizenship, there would be no problems over obtaining a work permit though persuading Atletico to part with a talented player taht has four more years left on his contract could be prove more troublesome.
