Liverpool are likely to focus their attention on Southampton’s English forward Jay Rodriguez after having pulled the plug on the deal for French international Loic Remy, reports the Metro.
They’ve already snared his teammates from last term, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren.
The Reds have signed only Rickie Lambert as an additional striker this summer after having lost their star player Luis Suarez to Barcelona, and Brendan Rodgers is keen to get at least another striker into his squad before the start of the new campaign.
Loic Remy was extremely close to completing his switch to Anfield, but he apparently failed a couple of tests in the medical, which got Liverpool to pull out of the deal.
The Reds are now targeting Rodriguez, who netted an impressive 17 goals for the Saints last season, but the South Coast club will resist all offers for him. Southampton are also preparing a lucrative 5-year deal for Rodriguez to keep him at the club, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s might could be too hot to handle for them once again this season.
