The Croatian attacker has spent just two seasons in La Liga, but Metro reports that the former Bayern Munich man is eyeing a Premier League move and that Atletico are already looking at replacements.
Brendan Rodgers is looking to bolster his attacking options following a disappointing season, with flops Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert expected to leave the club in the summer.
Mandzukic has scored 12 goals in 27 league appearances this season and would give the Reds an added dimension up front, however it is understood that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke remains Rodgers’ first preference.
According to Metro’s report, Atletico are also interested in Benteke and the Belgian’s decision will no doubt have implications on the playing future of Mandzukic.
The Reds are the seventh-highest goalscoring team in the Premier League, and Rodgers must dip into the transfer market to help propel his side back into the top four.
