Lovren submits formal transfer request to Saints’ hierarchy.
Liverpool may just have attracted another top Southampton player in central defender Dejan Lovren to Anfield, reports the Daily Express.
Lovren, 24, only joined the South Coast club last summer, but he now feels that he must take up the opportunity of playing Champions League football, if the chance presents itself.
The Croatia international has submitted a formal transfer request after learning that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is interested in his services, and it will be very interesting to see how a managerless Saints handle the situation.
Rodgers is willing to make a £15 million offer for the Croatian, who impressed many in his first season in the Premier League, and the Hampshire club could be tempted to make an £8 million profit on their purchase from last summer – particularly since the player himself has set his sights on a move to Merseyside.
Lovren may not be the last of Southampton’s players migrating to Anfield as the Reds are also intent on luring England international Adam Lallana with the prospect of Champions League football.
