Brendan Rodgers closes in on La Liga midfielder.
Liverpool are keen on acquiring the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi, as the Spaniard continues to struggle to make a mark on the first-team, and is almost certain to leave in the summer, reports CaughtOffside.

Illarramendi moved from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2013, being considered as a replacement to the departing Xabi Alonso, yet he hasn’t lived up to the high expectations.
Injury to Luka Modric also hasn’t given him more first-team opportunities, as may have been expected.
The 24-year-old is being monitored by Arsenal, but Liverpool appear in pole-position to land the defensive-midfielder, with former Anfield hero and Real star Alonso encouraging him to dismiss the Gunners’ interest and join the Reds.
