Liverpool have not yet tied down their ace right-back Glen Johnson to a new deal at Anfield despite the 29-year-old having just one more year left to run on his current deal, reports the Guardian.
The Reds have reportedly offered the England international a one year extension in addition to the one year left on his contract, but the versatile full-back wants a longer offer in what could possibly be his last long term deal.
Reds’ owners Fenway Sports Group meanwhile, are hesitant to increase the length of Johnson’s whopping £120k-per-week deal beyond 2016, which has now become a road block in negotiations.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers reportedly wants to keep Johnson even if he rejects a new deal as he is set to build his defence around the former Chelsea man. Rodgers wants the talented full-back to remain as the first choice right-back as he plots changes to the centre-back and left-back positions in defence.
