Reds may now have to look elsewhere after Armenian indicates preference for Bundesliga move.
Liverpool look like missing out on their no 1 transfer target of the summer after in-demand Shakhtar Donetsk midfield player Henrik Mkhitaryan indicated that he would prefer a move to Borussia Dortmund instead, says Goal.com.
The Reds have been closely monitoring the Armenia international for some time now and were hoping to be able to complete a 22 million euros move for the attacking midfield player by the end of this week now that the summer transfer window has finally reopened for business once again.
However, those plans have since stalled following the entry of Uefa Champions League runners-up Dortmund into the race to land Mkhitaryan, who netted a hugely impressive 26 goals in just 39 matches in all competitions for the Ukrainian champions last season.
Both suitors have had offers for the player accepted by Shakhtar having activated his 22m euros release clause and now it is up to Mkhitaryan himself to decide where he wants to play next season, with it thought that the Armenian will make a final choice by the end of this week.
