Liverpool want Valencia’s 25-year-old Spanish midfielder Dani Parejo, and according to reports in the player’s homeland, the Reds will do everything they can to bring to him Anfield.
talkSPORT claim Spanish newspaper Superdeporte report that Liverpool are willing to meet Parejo’s £20.5m release clause in order to guarantee his transfer.
The Reds enjoyed an excellent Premier League campaign, but narrowly missed out on title glory after slipping up in late matches against Chelsea and Crystal Palace. Despite midfielders like Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson (both of whom are expected to start for England at the World Cup), and Coutinho enjoying excellent seasons, Rodgers is keen on strengthen ahead of the 2014/15 Champions League campaign.
He has been promised large funds in order to do this, and it looks as though he will turn to Spain to bolster his midfield options.
Lucas is relatively immobile, and while Joe Allen is technically strong – he offers little in terms of creativity. Liverpool have been linked to Southampton star Adam Lallana too, but Parejo could be a cheaper alternative, with the Saints demanding £25m for their Englishman.
In La Liga last season, Parejo made 27 starts for Valencia, and contributed four goals and five assists. He can play either as a deep-lying playmaker, or a more natural central midfielder.
Parejo prides himself on his passing ability, and the fact he can retain possession even in tight areas. He is also a threat on dead balls, although with Gerrard in the lineup, it’s unlikely he’ll get to take many if he were to move to Anfield next term.
Parejo started his career at Real Madrid, but failed to make the grade. Now at Valencia though, he’s finally began to reach the potential he showed as a youngster.
