Liverpool confirmed Brazilian attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino as their fifth summer signing this morning.
The 23-year-old, who put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Anfield, is reportedly Liverpool’s second most expensive purchase ever.
Hoffenheim are said to be receiving a £29m transfer fee for Firmino – £6m less than the Reds paid for Andy Carroll in January 2011.
There is no question that the signing of Firmino presents better value than that expensive Carroll acquisition.
Carroll moved to Anfield on the back of a good Championship season and a decent Premier League campaign.
Firmino – a nine-time Brazil international – arrives having teared up the Bundesliga last term, scoring seven goals and making 10 assists.
Not only does Firmino score goals from deep positions, he scores really good goals from deep positions.

Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for Firmino. Will the Red Devils regret missing out?
