The German international has struggled with injuries during his time in Florence, scoring just seven Serie A goals after his big move from Bayern.
However, interest has still been high for the former Bundesliga top scorer and Liverpool had reportedly been keen on bringing him in to solve their goal-scoring issues.
Nevertheless, it appears as though Brendan Rodgers will be left disappointed as the 30-year-old is believed to be set for Turkey after the Viola accepted a €6m bid from Besiktas.
It is claimed that Gomez will sign a three-year deal worth €5m per season, as reported by Football Italia, and there are suggestions that the move will be confirmed very soon.
As a result, it leaves Rodgers looking elsewhere for a striker capable of scoring goals consistently to support what he already has in his squad as well as adding the threat needed by the club to make a sustained title push.
That search may well be over sooner rather than later given reports that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke is closing in on a move to Anfield.
