Liverpool’s veteran centre-half Kolo Toure has apologised to fans and his teammates following an awful mistake that cost his side the three points against West Brom at the weekend, the Metro reports.
With his side 1-0 up at the Hawthorns, Toure inexcusably passed the ball straight across the back-line, and Baggies striker Victor Anichibe gratefully picked up the ball before slotting it into the bottom corner of Simon Mignolet’s net.
“It was a terrible pass by me,” the Ivorian told the Liverpool Echo. “You have to make the right decisions and I took a bad decision.
“It was my call. I should have passed to one of our players but instead I passed it straight to the striker.”
Toure has been solid for Liverpool since arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City in the summer, but this error could prove costly at the end of the season with the Reds desperate for a top four finish.
Following the draw against West Brom, Liverpool sit in fourth spot, two points ahead of fierce rivals Everton.
Toure recognises that his mistake cost the Reds the game, but has vowed to bounce back stronger and better as a result.
“It’s difficult to say what we have been talking about in the dressing room but the manager knows how disappointed I am. My pass put the team in a difficult situation.
“When you make mistakes it’s important to bounce back and play better. I’ve made a few mistakes in my life and I’m still learning every day. I will learn from this.”
