Barca keen to lure Anfield stalwart ‘home’.
Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina tops Barcelona’s short-list of potential replacements for Victor Valdes, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Catalans have resigned themselves to losing Valdes this summer, after the 31-year-old Spaniard publicly insisted he will not sign a new contract at the Nou Camp.
Barca boss Tito Vilanova, president Sandro Rosell and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta reportedly held a crunch meeting to discuss a replacement and unanimously decided on £10m-rated Reina.
The 30-year-old, who is also a long-term transfer target for Arsenal, started his career at Barcelona and made 30 La Liga appearances for the Spanish giants before departing for Villareal in 2002.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will reportedly allow £110,000-a-week Reina to leave Anfield for the right price, as the Northern Irishman continues his rebuilding operation on Merseyside.
The Spain international has just one year remaining on his Reds’ contract and Rodgers does not want to lose the stopper for free next summer.
Barcelona also have Borussia Monchengladbach’s rising star Marc-Andre ter Stegen, 21, on their short-list.
