Liverpool transfer news
Sterling has refused to ink a new deal with the Reds, and The Guardian reports the 20-year-old has become aware of United’s interest and is seriously considering a move.
However, the newspaper reports that Sterling is concerned about the backlash he would receive if he is to become the first player to transfer between the clubs since Phil Chisnall made the move from Old Trafford to Anfield in 1964.
Sterling has two years remaining on his current £35k-a-week deal with Liverpool but recently turned down an improved £100k-a-week contract as he looks to force his way out of Anfield.
United boss Louis van Gaal is believed to be a big admirer of the England international, with his versatility of major interest to the Dutchman.
Sterling struggled to make a major impact this season, but United will still face major competition to snare the former QPR prodigy’s signature, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich all reportedly interested.
