Skrtel’s agent sets up meeting to clarify the centre half’s future at Anfield.
Martin Skrtel is set to hold talks with Brendan Rodgers and the Liverpool coaching staff to discuss his future with the team.
The Slovakian international is desperate to have his future clarified by the Liverpool boss, with Napoli the latest side to be interested in the stand-out defender.
No offer has been made yet by the Serie A runners up, but new boss Rafael Benitez is interested in the 28-year old, whom he signed for Liverpool when he was in charge back in 2008.
Skrtel had a disappointing 2012/13 season, where he struggled for first team opportunities in the second half of the season, and could be pushed out of the side altogether by veteran Kolo Toure or young prospect Sebastian Coates.
While no date has been set, the defender’s agent Karol Csonto has been quoted by Sky Sports as saying that talks will be taking place in the near future.
“There has been no contact between the two clubs. Martin has a contract with Liverpool and it is important to honour that.
“Obviously Napoli know Martin well, but there cannot be any contact between us and them if they do not first reach an agreement with Liverpool.
“I will be in England next week to talk with Liverpool and define Martin’s future.”
The 28-year old has one year remaining on his contract with the Premier League club, and if Liverpool do deem him surplus requirements, then they will look to offload him soon instead of letting him leave on a free next summer.
