Key Liverpool star wanted by FC Barcelona after they failed to convince Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazil captain to move.
FC Barcelona are considering a bid to sign Liverpool centre back Daniel Agger, according to Spanish publication Sport.
The Catalan club’s failure to sign Brazil captain Thiago Silva from Paris Saint-Germain has meant that they have had to look for transfer targets elsewhere.
“The transfer is not possible and the player will remain in Paris,” said Thiago Silva’s agent Paulo Tonietto to Radio Cadena Ser.
Agger is high up on their list, with a central defender vital for Barca’s summer recruitment.
The Danish international centre back is a fine player technically who has a keen eye for a pass – vital attributes to fit in with the Barcelona squad, but his lack of pace could prove an issue in the team’s high line.
Liverpool will undoubtedly be reluctant to sell Agger too, as they have already lost Jamie Carragher to retirement and question marks remain over the futures of Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates – each of which has been out of favour at Anfield.
Although Brendan Rodgers has brought in Kolo Toure, Agger could soon be the only senior central defender remaining from last season, and he will be loathe to have to perform a total overhaul of such a vital position.
Agger has as yet given no indication that he is looking to leave Anfield.
