Liverpool have stolen a march on Arsenal in the race to sign Swansea City defender Ashley Williams.

Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers will make Swansea City centre-back Ashley Williams his No 1 transfer target for the end of the season, although the Merseysiders also know that they will need to go head to head with fellow Premier League giants Arsenal if they want to land the highly-rated Wales international.
The Daily Mirror piece referenced above reports that the 28-year-old defender is a lifelong Liverpool supporter, which may give the club the edge over their north London rivals, who themselves failed with a £9 million bid for the player in the recent January transfer window.
However, whether Liverpool supporters will be happy with Williams’s arrival at Anfield this summer remains to be seen.
With the South Coast club valuing their inspirational captain at around the £9m mark, Williams will be a fairly cheap new addition to the team when compared that to the rest of today’s astronomical prices.
For that money Rodgers and Co will be getting an aerially-dominant, no-nonsense defender with outstanding leadership skills, who has proved with his displays at the back at the Liberty this campaign against some of the best attackers in the top flight just what an outstanding centre back he is.
