Anfield forward sunk teeth into Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in Premier League fixture.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was charged with violent conduct by the Football Association on Monday after biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
The FA warned that the standard punishment of three matches “is clearly insufficient in these circumstances” and gave Suarez until 1700 GMT on Tuesday to respond to the charge before a disciplinary committee is convened.
Suarez sunk his teeth into Ivanovic’s right arm during Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Anfield in the Premier League.
Suarez has already been fined by the club and has asked for the money to be donated to the Hillsborough Family Support Group.
The ugly incident has sparked widespread condemnation of the Uruguayan and both the player and Liverpool were forced to apologise, while Reds manager Brendan Rodgers admitted his star forward’s actions were unacceptable.
