Liverpool are set to complete a deal for Nigerian youngster Taiwo Awoniyi this week, according to reports.
According to Daily Express, the striker has impressed Liverpool scouts and will sign a deal to join the club’s youth setup.
AS Monaco, Red Bull Salzburg and FC Porto were all reportedly interested in the 18-year-old, but the Imperial Soccer Academy starlet has chosen the Reds as his next destination according to Nigerian FA spokesman Timi Ebikagboro.
“He will leave this week for England to sign his contract with Liverpool and that is why he is not here training with us for the All Africa Games,” Ebikagboro told AfricanFootball.com, as reported by Daily Express.
Awoniyi is reported to be a pacy striker and is understood to be one of Nigeria’s best young talents.
Liverpool have enjoyed a strong start to the Premier League season and currently sit in third place after being unbeaten in its three opening matches.
The Reds defeated Stoke City and Bournemouth before playing out a highly-entertaining 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Monday night.
