The Reds could sign Aurier ahead of Wenger.
Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier is the subject of great interest from Arsenal after a brilliant 2013/14 season, but now Liverpool could be the ones signing the starlet, according to the Metro.
Despite the £7m deal for the 21-year-old to join the Gunners seemingly as good as done when Aurier admitted to a fan of the north London club that he would be joining them this summer – as seen below – it seems Brendan Rodgers could steal the march.
Despite the confidence of the Ivory Coast international, the defender’s agent Stephane Courbis says no deal has been agreed with the north Londoners and that they are also in talks with another English club.
“There is no agreement with Arsenal,” Courbis said.
“We’ve talked in past but there has been nothing recently. We’re in talks with another English side.”
The Reds are thought to be in the lookout for new full-backs as doubts over the capabilities of Glen Johnson grow and being eight years the England international’s junior makes Aurier an attractive alternative.
However, Arsene Wenger is an even more desperate position to sign a new right-back, with current star Bacary Sagna having confirmed he is leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer when his current deal with the club expires.
Aurier has emerged as such a coveted star due to his performances in Ligue 1 last term with Toulouse, playing 34 matches in the French top tier and even scoring six goals and providing six assists.
This form has seen the youngster take the place of former Gunners favourite Emmanuel Eboue in the Ivory Coast’s 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup.
