Liverpool are hoping to make former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi their ninth and final signing of the summer, according to CaughtOffside.
The Italian international, currently of Fiorentina, has had spells in the Premier League before during his time as a youngster, but did not enjoy great success at Old Trafford or in a loan spell with Newcastle United.
Still, Rossi has developed into a fine player since then and is now a top target for Liverpool as they seek to strengthen upfront before the end of the transfer window.
With Luis Suarez leaving in a £75m move to Barcelona, the Reds are somewhat lacking in firepower in attack, with a move for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy falling through after a failed medical.
Rossi could be a good alternative, with the 27-year-old enjoying a superb recent goalscoring record despite being plagued by injuries in the last couple of years.
