Liverpool plan a surprise swoop for Wigan Athletic star Hugo Rodallega after Latics manager Roberto Martinez admitted the Colombian could leave the DW Stadium before the transfer window closes.
“[Rodallega] is a very important part of our plans,” said Martinez to the Daily Mirror.
“If he does well enough, it’s only fair that we do not stand in his way if the chance of a big move comes along.
“Unless we can go on to the next level, and perhaps make it into one of the European competitions, it is impossible to keep players when they are in the best moments of their career.”
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish can currently call upon Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez as first team strikers, with Dirk Kuyt able to fill in when required (though he typically plays on the wing).
One more backup striker could do them little harm.
