The Egyptian international was scheduled to return to Fiorentina this season as part of the loan deal that first took him from Chelsea to Florence.
However, he vetoed that deal despite protests from the Viola given that they argued that the deadline to do so had passed.
Salah has since been linked with a whole host of clubs around Italy, while Liverpool were also mentioned as a possible destination as they look to fill the gap left behind by Raheem Sterling following his £49m move to Man City.
Nevertheless, it appears as though Roma are now in the strongest position to sign the former Basel man who looks set for the exit door at Stamford Bridge after he was omitted from their pre-season tour of North America.
It is reported by Football Italia that Roma will look to take him on loan for this season with an option to buy him outright at a set price next summer.
