The Reds have an eye on Aston Villa midfielder and captain Fabian Delph, and appear willing to offer one of their forwards to secure his spot at Anfield.
According to HITC Sport, Liverpool are willing to offer replacement forward Fabio Borini to Aston Villa in exchange for Delph, who was named the club’s captain midway through the season after several strong performances helped picked the Villans out of the relegation zone. Borini is coming off one of his more bench-heavy seasons, only making 12 appearances for Liverpool after a one-year loan spell with Sunderland. Borini’s stock rose to £12 million last season but was unable to reach a permanent arrangement with Sunderland.
For Aston Villa, the club is poised to lose superstar scorer Christian Benteke and will likely have to scramble to find a suitable replacement to avoid another scoring drought – which could mean good news for Borini if he is looking for a club where he can start.
Ironically, the 24-year-old Italian made his only goal of the 2014-15 season in Liverpool’s match against Aston Villa on January 17, 2015.
