Liverpool will continues their spending in January with the acquisitions of Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou and Manchester City’s Adam Johnson, reports CaughtOffside. The Reds are hoping to capitalise on each player being seemingly marginalised at their respective clubs with neither currently first choice for their managers.
With Kenny Dalglish boasting few options in attack beyond the pairing of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, a move for Kalou is seen as providing both thrust in attack and the ability to fill in on the flanks. Johnson was a target for the club poor the summer as they sought more orthodox width in the squad though City refused to countenance the sale.
Liverpool are hoping their mind will have changed by the New Year but after the England international scored a stunning opener in the 4-0 win at Blackburn on Saturday. City are keen to keep a large squad as they bid for silverware on four fronts and even a proposed bid of £18m is unlikely to be enough for them to change their mind.
Kalou could be a different proposition as he has entered the last year of his contract at Chelsea. The competition for places at Stamford Bridge is tough with the Ivorian up against Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres, Nicolas Anelka, Daniel Sturridge and Romelu Lukaku for a place in the starting line-up.
