Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Fiorentina over a swap deal that will see Mario Gomez join the Premier League club and Reds flop Mario Balotelli head back to Italy.
Balotelli failed to impress during his first season at Anfield, scoring just once in the Premier League following his £16m move from Italian giants AC Milan last summer.
According to Sport Mediaset, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is believed to be keen on luring Gomez to the club and is happy to allow Balotelli to head in the opposite direction to complete the deal.
Gomez has struggled with injury since joining Fiorentina two years ago, scoring just 14 goals in 47 appearances for the club.
However, the German international had great success with Bayern Munich, scoring 75 goals in 115 Bundesliga matches before he was ousted from the starting XI by Croatian star Mario Mandzukic.
Despite Gomez’s injury problems, Rodgers is hopeful he can help the 30-year-old spark a late-career revival with the Premier League club.
