The former Arsenal midfielder had found himself surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp and new Barca head coach Luis Enrique was keen to ship the Cameroon international out.
Since arriving at Upton Park the 27-year-old has impressed, helping Sam Allardyce’s side to some positive results in the Premier League and this has grabbed the attention of Brendan Rodgers.
The Northern Irishman is on the lookout for holding midfielders with captain Steven Gerrard approaching the end of his career and increasing doubts over the capabilities of Lucas Leiva.
Whether the Catalans are willing to part with Song permanently is another matter though, not because Enrique rates him but because FIFA have imposed a transfer ban on the club until January 2016.
