Liverpool will fail in any attempts to sign Derby County wonderkid Will Hughes this January, Sky Sports reports.
The Reds are interested in the uber-talented 19-year-old, who has all the technical ability and talent to develop into one of the country’s finest midfielders.
Derby County chief executive Sam Rush is keen on keeping Hughes at the club for as long as possible, however.
“Will is best placed in Derby,” said Rush, quoted in the Sunday People.
“There is a huge amount for him to achieve here and I don’t feel commercially it is the right time for us to entertain any other discussions.
“You look at a variety of factors when you make a decision.
“Is it right for the player? Has he already maximised his contribution to the club – is there any more he can do for us? And is he at the height of his potential in income you can generate?
“The answer to all three is ‘no’.
Despite still being in his teen years, Hughes has made over 80 first-team appearances already, and is a fixture in Steve Maclaren’s side.
It could well be that the Reds go back in for the prodigal midfielder in the summer.
