The young winger has been linked with a temporary move away from Merseyside but Reds’ assistant manager Colin Pascoe said on Saturday that the club had no plans to allow Sterling to depart.
And speaking at a press conference following Sunday’s FA Cup third round win over Oldham, Rodgers hinted that Sterling might have been available in the summer but not since the England international regained his spot in the Liverpool first team.
“I seen something the other week. I think it must have been one of the media guys whose in-tray (got) checked four or five months later,” Rodgers said.
“I think that must have been in the in-tray around about August-time and he hasn’t looked in it and he’s just picked it up and put it in the paper! So I don’t know where it’s come from.
“I don’t think you let a player whose in your team and playing exceptionally well go on loan… So, no, he won’t be going anywhere.”
