Liverpool have targeted yet another attacking midfielder to bolster their squad this January, and could make a £9m bid for PSV’s 23-year-old captain Georginio Wijnaldum, reports the Metro.
PSV coach Phillip Cocu gave the attacking midfielder the captaincy at the start of this season, to reward him for the loyalty he showed in the summer by staying with the Eredivisie side.
Wijnaldum has suffered with injuries for most of this season though, and has only made six league starts. He did score four goals in those appearances however, showing he has the ability to contribute in the final third when he’s fit.
The Dutchman is an excellent dribbler, and also has an eye for a clever pass. He can play centrally, although will likely be deployed from a winder spot at Liverpool with mercurial Brazilian Coutinho currently occupying the no.10 spot.
In 105 matches for PSV since arriving three years ago, Wijnaldum has scored 39 times, and he would undoubtedly help Liverpool’s chances of a top four finish this term.
