Could a romantic return to Anfield be on the cards for the Argentine battler?

Liverpool have made contact with La Liga champions Barcelona over the possible transfer of Javier Mascherano, according to an exclusive report from CaughtOffside.
The Argentine battler starred for Liverpool between 2007 and 2010, before Barcelona signed him for close to £20m. In that time, he’s won La Liga and Champions League titles with the Catalan giants, but is reportedly unhappy at new manager Tata Martino insisting to deploy him as a centre-back instead of his favoured anchoring midfield position.
The 29-year-old has only started ten league matches this term, and Liverpool fans would be delighted if the club brought him back to Anfield.
Mascherano’s departure from Barcelona though would rely on them bringing a replacement centre-back first. Liverpool’s director Ian Ayre was apparently told however, that is this occurs, Barcelona would be willing to listen to offers for his services.
The South American destroyer was once part of a Liverpool midfield trio with Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso – donned ‘the best in the world’. If he were to return, he would do a lot of the leg work Gerrard now struggles to, and enable the ever improving Jordan Henderson to get forward more often and support the attack.
