Martin Skrtel
Despite the concession of 50 Premier League goals last season, Slovakian centre back Martin Skrtel had an excellent season for Liverpool – not least in attack.
The 29 year-old scored a fairly remarkable seven times in the top flight, including in games against top four rivals Chelsea, Arsenal (twice) and Manchester City.
A regular defensive partner for Skrtel and continued work on the training ground could help the Reds become more solid at the back.
Steven Gerrard
There’s not a lot to say about Steven Gerrard that hasn’t been said already.
The Liverpool captain managed a hugely creditable 13 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League last season, despite playing in a deep midfield position.
Gerrard shows no sign of slowing down at the age of 34, and his set piece prowess will be a vital asset once again this term.
