Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of their huge Premier League clash at home to rivals Liverpool this evening.
The 29-year-old, who became England’s all-time record goalscorer this week, is carrying a hamstring injury and arrived to Old Trafford alone.
Marouane Fellaini is expected to start in attack, with £36 signing Anthony Martial the only recognised striker in the United squad, but on the bench.
Phil Jones and Andreas Pereira are also sidelined, but Marcos Rojo comes back into contention and David de Gea could start in goal after signing a new contract.
Liverpool are also missing their captain, with Jordan Henderson having failed to recover from a foot injury. James Milner will lead the visitors out.
Brendan Rodgers is also without Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge, Joe Allen and Jon Flanagan, while the suspended Philippe Coutinho will be sorely missed.
