On Sunday, Liverpool play probably their most important Premier League fixture in many a year. They host Manchester City at Anfield, knowing a win will put them firmly in the driving seat for the title race.

Here’s five key battles we think will be crucial in deciding the outcome of this mammoth fixture…

Luis Suarez v Vincent Kompany

The league’s best striker against probably the league’s top centre-half. City’s Belgian captain knows he’s going to have to be at his physical and domineering best to tame the rampant Suarez, who has bagged 29 league goals so far this term. As excellent as Kompany is though, he does have a habit of lunging in and giving away fouls, and Suarez will hope to tempt him into a mistimed tackle in the penalty box. If he does, expect Steven Gerrard to lash it home, as he has done ten times this season already.
