Moreno closes in on Anfield transfer…

Liverpool are close to wrapping up their first summer signing of the transfer window, according to Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo, who released the story this Sunday afternoon.
The report claims that the Reds will tie up a deal for Sevilla’s starlet Alberto Moreno in the coming weeks, with a likely €20m fee set to be paid by Brendan Rodgers’ men.
The 21-year-old left-back has excelled for Sevilla since breaking through into the first-team squad at the start of 2013. Last term he was a fixture in the side, performing admirably up and down the left flank. In fact, his form was so good that he earned his first cap for Spain at the back end of last year, and he was unlucky to miss out on Vicente del Bosque’s final 23 for this summer’s World Cup.
However, the fact Moreno has not been selected for the Spain squad works in Liverpool’s favour. This will help them speed up proceedings before confirming the youngster as their first summer signing.
They’d already made a €16m plus Suso bid, but this new offer without any players involved is expected to be closer to Sevilla’s valuation.
Moreno prides himself on his technical ability. He can pass, and once he gets forward and overlaps his winger, he has the composure to select the right pass. His forward bursts saw him score three goals last term, although his lack of physicality could be a problem early in on his potential Premier League career.
He struggles aerially, and rarely dives into tackles – although when Liverpool have the ball, his presence will be noticeable.
Brendan Rodgers has made left-back his priority area for improvement this summer, with current stars Jose Enrique and Jon Flanagan not regarded as long-term options ahead of 2014/15. Enrique is perpetually injured, and Flanagan is more naturally comfortable on the right of defence.
Moreno though would solve this problem, ahead of the Reds’ Champions League campaign next season.
As well as the young Spaniard, the Reds are very close to signing Southampton’s Rickie Lambert for £4m.
