In the latest in a string of left-backs to be linked with a summer move to Anfield, Argentine Marcus Rojo is on Liverpool’s shortlist, reports the Mirror.
The 23-year-old plays for Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, and has established himself as a regular since arriving from Spartak Moscow in 2012.
As a result of his consistent form this term, he’s expected to start for his country at this summer’s World Cup under manager Alejandro Sabella.
Liverpool scouts watched Rojo this weekend as his side beat FC Porto 1-0, and the they would have been impressed with what they saw. Rojo has a terrific engine which enables him to work tirelessly up the left flank, and like most South American’s he’s technically sound. This suits Brendan Rodgers perfectly, who has had to watch Aly Cissokho give the ball away on countless occasions from the left-back spot this term.
Because of the Frenchman’s ropey form, his loan deal won’t be extended, and Rodgers has deployed natural right-backs Glen Johnson or Jon Flanagan in his spot recently.
Although they’ve done well, the Reds want to sign a proper left-back in the summer, and have also been linked to Sevilla’s Spaniard Alberto Moreno.
