Liverpool still keen on Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa.
Liverpool are still interested in signing Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, and are willing to stump up huge money for the Brazilian capped hit-man in January or next summer, reports The Liverpool Echo.
During the summer, the Reds had a £22m bid for the striker rejected, as manager Brendan Rodgers again missed out on a transfer target.
Since then, Costa, 24, has demonstrated why Liverpool wanted to sign him, bagging 15 goals in 15 league appearances.
In fact, only Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more goals than Costa so far in Europe’s top five leagues. As a result of his superb form, his valuation has likely sky-rocketed.
Liverpool though, are desperate to prove to star man Luis Suarez that the club is going in the right direction. During the summer the striker publicly tried to force a move away from Anfield, but the club stood firm and kept hold of the world-class operator.
Despite the rocky summer, the Uruguayan has scored 14 times in just 10 matches this season, and the Reds have reportedly stuck a £100m price tag on his head with Real Madrid potentially targeting him next summer, according to The Daily Star.
Liverpool would rather keep Suarez though, and are willing to pay huge money to build an impressive side around him that could realistically challenge for the Premier League title. Even with their paper thin squad, the Reds are currently in second place in the table, mainly thanks to the form of the 26-year-old Uruguayan.
With Daniel Sturridge’s latest injury, Liverpool are overly reliant on Suarez, and a move for Costa could prove essential to their continued top four push.
