The Liverpool boss has an apt name for his monstrous defensive star…
Liverpool manger Brendan Rodgers has a nickname for his star central defensive summer signing Mamadou Sakho, reports Sky Sports.
The 23-year-old has been recalled to the French squad following his solid start in a Red shirt, and is enjoying his first few months away from home, and working closely with his new boss.
“I’m taking English lessons. As for the football, it’s not lived in the same way,” said Sakho, who represented PSG ever since he was a young boy.
“I’m learning and I listen to the manager’s advice. It’s funny, he calls me Killer!” added the powerful defender.
“On the pitch I’m trying to adapt to my team-mates. And things are getting better and better because I need to communicate.”
Sakho is currently being utilised on the left of a back three for Liverpool, who sit joint top of the Premier League table. The centre-half has solid technical attributes and is a good passer of the football, but his main strengths lies in his practically unrivalled power and aerial ability.
Against Crystal Palace last weekend Sakho enjoyed his best game in a Red shirt, and his ability to communicate with his teammates is clearly improving.
Alongside the revitalised Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure at the back, and with vice-captain Daniel Agger waiting in the wings, Liverpool have arguably the strongest collection of centre-halves in the league, which suits Rodgers’ new formation perfectly.
It’s early days, but Sakho looks as though he will justify his substantial fee.
