The Serbian winger has struggled to adapt to the pace of the Premier League so far, but Rodgers is confident that he has what it takes to succeed in English football’s top flight.
His performance against Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup was particularly pleasing for the Merseyside Manager, with Markovic grabbing his first goal for the club sandwiched between a brace from Raheem Sterling.
“He was brilliant. It has taken him a bit of time to get going and we have talked to him about being more aggressive in his game,” Rodgers said.
“Playing in that role [against Bournemouth] he was outstanding; he was defensively good and pressed the ball at almost all of the right times, so tactically he was very good.
“And with the ball his speed and movement was excellent. He has got good quality and is a good footballer.”
Liverpool have endured a disastrous start to the new campaign, currently floundering in mid table in the Premier League after being dumped out of the Champions League by Basel in disappointing fashion.
Rodgers’ summer signings have been disappointing so far, so the Northern Irish manager would love to see Markovic succeed at the club.
