We are not even in July yet, but Liverpool are already poised to make their fourth signing of the offseason, by recruiting a talented teenager from Charlton Athletic.
Eighteen-year-old Joe Gomez, who is a centre-half and occasional right-back, is set to have a medical at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground on Friday, after his £3.5m release clause was triggered, according to the Daily Star.
Gomez enjoyed an impressive debut season with Charlton during the 2014-15 campaign. He made 21 Championship appearances as the Addicks finished 12th in the table
The Reds recently added midfielder James Milner from Manchester City, striker Danny Ings from Burnley and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan from Bolton Wanderers.
All three of Liverpool’s completed signings have Premier League experience. Although Gomez does not, his reputation as a hot prospect could make him the most exciting arrival at Anfield this summer.
Gomez has represented England at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-19 levels.
