Liverpol set for defensive overhaul in the summer…
Despite a reported £50m loss in the past financial year, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will be given money to spend in the summer, reveals the Daily Star.
Managing director Ian Ayre confirmed this, heaping praise on the Northrn Irish boss.
“In his first season he would admit that there was a lot of finding his feet and starting to impart his philosophy and his style into the team,” Ayre said.
“I think what we have seen this year is that starting to grow and prosper. And we’ll continue to add to the team and support him in putting additional players into the group.”
With this news, we’ve tried to predict how Liverpool might line up next season, based on players returning to fitness and summer transfers being made…
Liverpool are the top scorers in European football this term, but have been defensively poor, so expect the new arrivals to dominate the back five.
GK) Victor Valdes
The first surprise name on the team sheet…
Simon Mignolet only arrived last summer, but he’s made four mistakes in the league which have led directly to goals, and his ability with the ball at his feet is questionable. Valdes’s contract expires in the summer, and has recently been linked with a move to Anfield. (Daily Star) The Spanish veteran has improved throughout his career, and at 32-years-old, could provide fantastic experience and value for money arriving at Liverpool on a free transfer.
