Liverpool and England winger Raheem Sterling is asking for a contract worth £140,000 per week, according to The Times football editor Tony Evans – a £110,000 increase on his current deal which eclipses the pay packet of striker Daniel Sturridge.

Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling just wants to be ‘winning trophies’
In a long series of tweets, Evans revealed that Sterling felt that his £30,000 deal meant he had been underpaid for the past two years, with other players performing worse than him but picking up a higher wage. He has already rejected an offer of £100,000 per week, and gave a long interview with the BBC that will only fan flames of rumours suggesting a transfer away.
On his future, Evans tweeted that Fenway Sports Group, owners of Liverpool, had no plans to sell Sterling and Manchester City would likely be sniffing around him in the summer in a bid to fulfil their homegrown player quota.
According to the Times football editor, FSG believe Daniel Sturridge will be more important than Sterling, and as such are unwilling to give in to his contract demands, but want to keep him as they have the club’s best interests, and market value at heart. He also stated at FSG have a clear policy on how the club is run and, while wanting success, are unwilling to overspend.
Ok *deep breath* Sterling. Wait until you’ve read the lot. He’s been underpaid since he was 18. The 30k (now 35) was a bad deal. 1/?

It should have been 50k rising with appearances. It’s cost the kid a lot of money and others were earning far more and contributing less 2/?

Now, he was offered 100k. Asked for 140k. That’s more than Sturridge, who FSG think will be the star 3/?

Never going to happen. What now? Advisors think City will be looking for English youngsters in summer. They will. FSG will play hardball 4/?

They did with Suarez. But make no mistake. They don’t want him to leave. They don’t want to cash in. They don’t want to overpay 5/?

They want to win. That way, the club has more value. If and when they sell, they want best price. Comes from winning 6/7

But they don’t want to overspend. They have a clear vision of how the club runs. Agree or not, they have a policy (lost count now)

If I was Sterling’s agent, I’d ask for 120 with a 45m buyout clause. Play every week and keep my options open
